I sat in the sun at the picnic table. When I came back in, Henry ted was bellowing. His left paw looked broken. It was bent and hanging limply.

The vet said it was a blood clot and there was no cure.

Henry ted died peacefully with the vet's help. He had nodded when I asked him if that was what he wanted.

On the way to the country house, I felt Henry's presence in the car. It felt like warm hands on my shoulders. He felt grandfatherly, masculine, wisely serene…slightly amused.

That night I was spent from tears.

The next day, stillness and thoughtfulness reigned in the apartment. Henry's mother, brother, and sister seemed to be taking things in stride.

I cried violently that afternoon. The walk in the woods rendered the words, thank you.

That night I awoke at 11:03 pm. I was about to panic. My partner held me close. I got the word, ALIVE. I was able to sleep.

The next morning, I got the word, confident – I had done everything right.

. . .

I spent the morning holding Arrow, Henry's mother on my lap. Together, we shared our sweet, kind energy with Henry's serene, guiding-freedom energy. He was with us.

What I learned

Close your eyes. Feel the essence of beings around you. Listen. Do not wait for your loved ones to pass to feel the greatness of their spirits.
